Find duplicate contacts

OneBookPlus checks a new contact against the ones you already have. There is no merge button yet, so here is what to do instead.

Two records for the same customer split their history. Half the invoices sit on one, half the bookings on the other, and neither record tells you the truth about what that customer is worth.

Check before you create

When you add a contact, there is a Check for duplicates control beside the name, email and phone fields. Press it and OneBookPlus looks for an existing contact with the same email address, the same phone number or a closely matching name, and links you straight to anything it finds.

Use it before you save. It costs a second and it saves you untangling two records later.

There is no merge button yet

Being straight with you: OneBookPlus can find duplicates, it cannot yet merge two contacts into one. Until that ships, do this:

  1. Decide which record you are keeping. Usually that is the one with invoices and bookings attached, because those are the parts you cannot move across
  2. Copy anything useful off the other record, such as a second phone number or a postal address
  3. Delete the duplicate. Nothing is destroyed when you do, as deleting a contact explains

Stopping them at the source

Most duplicates arrive in a bulk import, not one at a time. Before you import a list, export the contacts you already have and check the two files against each other on email address. See importing contacts from a spreadsheet.
