Key takeaways
5- Australian salon and beauty businesses must charge 10% GST on all services and product sales (haircuts, treatments, retail). Tax invoice required for sales over $82.50 incl GST; ABN on every invoice prevents 47% no-ABN withholding.
- Common AU salon software pricing: Fresha ($44.95/mo a month solo or $29.95/mo per team member, plus a 20% commission on new marketplace clients; its free tier ended in 2025), Timely ($42 to $79 per staff member a month), Square Appointments (free with payment processing fees, then paid tiers for premium features), Phorest (per-location subscription, figure not republished here). Vendor prices verified 2 August 2026.

- OneBookPlus is the all-in-one alternative from $0/month (Free), $29/month (Starter), or $69/month (Growth): online booking + client CRM + automated SMS reminders + GST-compliant invoicing + email + Google review automation. AUD billing, no per-booking commission.
- Industry benchmarks: SMS reminders sent 24 hours before appointment cut no-shows by 30% to 40%; deposit-on-booking policies (typical 20% to 30%, non-refundable inside 24 hours) cut them further. Google reviews are one of the biggest drivers of new salon clients in metro markets.
- Compliance basics for AU salons: Fair Work modern award (Hair and Beauty Industry Award 2020), public liability insurance ($10m to $20m typical), professional indemnity (for cosmetic/beauty therapy), state-by-state cosmetic-injectable rules (SA + NSW require RN/medical oversight).
Everything Your Salon Needs
Built for Salons & Beauty Businesses
From booking to billing, OneBookPlus handles the admin so you can focus on making your clients look and feel amazing.
Online Booking Page
A lot of bookings come in after you've gone home. Your branded page takes them at 11pm, picks the right stylist for the service, and confirms, while the lights are off.
Client CRM
Every visit, invoice and note on one card, so you open with what she had last time and the detail she mentioned in March. She'll think you've got the memory of an elephant.
Automated Reminders
An automatic email or SMS reminder goes out before each appointment, on the lead time you choose, cutting the empty chairs that come from a forgotten booking.
Review Requests
Send the Google review link the moment she pays, so the compliment about her balayage gets posted while she still loves it, instead of a week later when she's forgotten.
Invoicing & Payments
Tap, charge, done. Clients can pay from the chair, on their phone, or via a link the next morning if they ran out the door, and the receipt with your ABN sends itself.
Calendar Subscription
Subscribe your bookings to Apple, Google or Outlook Calendar with one link, so new appointments appear there automatically without you re-typing anything.

Example walkthrough
Saturday in the salon, colour, cut and retail
An illustrative walkthrough of a typical salon day
You check the dashboard before the first client: the day's appointments laid out across every stylist rostered on, including the ones that booked themselves overnight through your online booking page and were confirmed by email automatically.
A regular messages to reschedule. You find her in the client record, see her visit history and notes, and move the appointment in two taps. The updated confirmation goes out on its own.
Walk-ins get added to the schedule as they arrive. Each service is invoiced at checkout with GST calculated for you, and the deposit taken at booking is credited against the bill.
Early in the week you send a bulk review request to Saturday's clients, and the ones who leave a review land on your Google listing. The BAS summary has been building itself the whole time, so there is no weekend spreadsheet session waiting.

One day, written by itself, an illustrated day of an Australian hair salon run on OneBookPlus
An illustrated day, not real customer data. Scroll through it from morning to 5pm: the AI receptionist answers and books a missed call, the work runs from the app, the GST invoice is sent on the spot, payment lands and the books balance themselves, a review invite is queued for the next daily run, and the day closes with the ledger already written.

While you're with a client
The bride-to-be call you'd have missed.
A bride-to-be wants a cut and colour before Saturday. She calls the first salon on Google, yours. Your hands are in foils.
AI Receptionist
Answered with your hands in foils.
The AI answers in two rings, books 11:30 with your senior stylist and texts her a confirmation.
In the chair
Her balayage notes and photo references, ready.
The appointment card shows her notes: first visit, warm balayage, and the photo references she attached when she booked.
At the front desk
Invoiced in one tap.
Cut, colour and treatment ring up as a GST invoice at checkout. She taps her card on the way out.
While you're mid-blow-dry
Paid at the desk, and the GST is set aside.
The $240 payment settles, the books update themselves and $21.82 GST is set aside for BAS.

Switch from
Switching from Fresha
Fresha is the platform most Australian salons come to us from, and the switch is usually about two things: the commission and the client list. Fresha now charges a monthly subscription ($29.95/mo per team member, since its free tier ended in 2025) plus a 20% commission on the first booking of every new marketplace client, and your booking page lives inside a marketplace rather than on a page you control. On OneBookPlus you pay a flat plan price (from $$0/month), keep 0% commission on every booking, and your booking page carries your branding at your own link. Deposits you take through Stripe settle to your account under your rules.
Your client list comes with you: export it from Fresha as a CSV and the bulk importer maps names, mobiles and notes in minutes. You also gain the pieces Fresha doesn't do at all: GST-compliant invoicing, expense tracking, profit and loss, and BAS-ready reporting in the same login. Read the full OneBookPlus vs Fresha comparison for a feature-by-feature and pricing breakdown.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about salon booking and appointment software.
What salon booking software do Australian salons use?
OneBookPlus is salon booking and management software built for Australia, 24/7 online bookings, a client CRM with appointment history, automated reminders, GST-compliant invoicing, and a branded booking page in one platform. It suits hair salons, barbers, beauty studios, and independent stylists, free to start and scaling as the salon grows.
Can clients book appointments online 24/7?
Absolutely. Your branded booking page is available around the clock. Clients see real-time availability, pick a service, choose a time, and confirm, all without calling your salon.
Does the beauty salon appointment system send reminders?
Yes. Automated email reminders are sent before each appointment. You can customise the timing and message, which helps cut down on no-shows.
How does OneBookPlus compare to Fresha, Timely or Mindbody for salons?
Fresha, Timely and Mindbody are established salon booking platforms. Fresha charges a monthly subscription ($44.95/mo solo or $29.95/mo per team member, since its free tier ended in 2025) plus a 20% commission on new marketplace clients and card processing fees, while Timely ($42 to $79 a month) and Mindbody charge per staff member or per location. Vendor prices verified 2 August 2026. OneBookPlus differs by bundling the booking page, client CRM, and GST-ready invoicing and BAS reporting into one Australian platform from $0/mo, with no per-booking commission, so your accounting and your appointments live in the same place.
Does it work for hair salons, beauty salons, and barbers?
OneBookPlus is designed for all beauty and grooming businesses, hair salons, beauty salons, barber shops, nail salons, spas, lash and brow bars, and independent stylists.
Can I request Google reviews automatically?
Yes. After each appointment, OneBookPlus can automatically send your client a polite review request with a direct link to your Google Business listing.
Is OneBookPlus also salon accounting and bookkeeping software?
Yes. Every checkout becomes a GST-compliant invoice, card and cash payments are recorded against it as you take them, and expenses and supplier costs are tracked and categorised. You get profit and loss reporting and a BAS-ready GST summary in the same login as your appointment book, so a typical salon doesn't need a separate Xero or MYOB subscription on top of its booking tool.
Can I run salon payroll and pay staff under the Hair and Beauty Award?
Yes, with the Rostering & Payroll add-on ($29/mo, 14-day trial). It rosters your staff, turns their hours into a pay run, and calculates PAYG withholding to the current ATO tax schedules, penalty rates, leave accrual and super guarantee, then produces payslips and an ABA file you upload to your bank. You set the pay rates for your stylists, apprentices and beauty therapists (the Hair and Beauty Industry Award 2020 sets the legal minimums) and OneBookPlus handles the calculations each pay run. One limit to know about: OneBookPlus does not lodge Single Touch Payroll pay events to the ATO, so you still report each pay run through STP-enabled software, and super is calculated and recorded rather than paid. Our Hair and Beauty Award rates guide covers current classification rates.

The compliance and licensing statements above are taken from the bodies this page links to, including the Australian Hairdressing Council, NSW Health and the Victorian Department of Health, so you can read the rule rather than take our word for it. Plan prices come from the OneBookPlus price registry, so the page and the checkout cannot disagree. Everything said about OneBookPlus describes what the product does today, and the page says so where it does not do something.
How OneBookPlus Works for Salons
Running a salon means you're paying for a stack of software that barely talks to each other: Fresha or Timely for bookings, Xero for invoicing, Mailchimp for email campaigns, and maybe Podium or Google Business tools for review management. Each subscription adds up, and you still end up copying client details between systems or manually reconciling your till at the end of the day. OneBookPlus brings bookings, client management, invoicing, reminders, review requests, and marketing into one platform built specifically for Australian hair salons, beauty studios, barbers, and spas.
The system is designed around the client journey. A new customer finds your booking page through Instagram, Google, or your website and books an appointment online, choosing their service, preferred stylist, and a time that suits them. They receive an automatic confirmation email immediately. Twenty-four hours before the appointment, OneBookPlus sends a reminder to reduce no-shows. When they arrive, you can see their full profile: previous visits, invoices, and the notes you keep on their record, special instructions included. After the service, you process payment and send a GST-compliant invoice. Then OneBookPlus automatically sends a polite review request with a direct link to your Google Business listing.
Your Daily Workflow
Imagine a busy Saturday. You arrive at the salon and open your OneBookPlus dashboard: sixteen appointments booked across three stylists, two of which came in overnight through your online booking page. A regular client messages asking to reschedule her balayage. You pull up her profile, see her visit history and notes, and move the appointment in two taps. She gets an updated confirmation automatically. Walk-ins during the day are added to the schedule with a quick tap. At checkout, each service is invoiced with GST calculated automatically. End of day: you close the till, check your dashboard: $3,400 across card and cash, twelve clients served, two no-shows flagged. On Monday, you send a bulk review request to Saturday's clients. The invites go out automatically, timed to land when the visit is still fresh.
Takings & Accounting
Every checkout writes an invoice, and the payment taken against it is recorded there and then, card or cash. Cash takings are counted off in the end-of-day till screen. Product expenses, rent, and supplier costs are tracked and categorised, entered by hand or drafted from a photographed receipt, so you can see your real salon profitability, not just turnover. GST is calculated on every invoice and expense. When BAS time arrives, export a clean summary of GST collected and GST paid in one click. No more weekend spreadsheet sessions or shoebox accounting.
Getting Started
Sign up in under five minutes. No credit card, no lock-in contract. Add your services, durations, prices, and team members. Upload your logo and customise your booking page colours to match your salon branding. Share the booking link on your Instagram bio, Facebook page, and Google Business profile. Most salons receive their first online booking within a day of going live. The free plan supports up to 250 contacts, 10 invoices a month, and automated reminders, enough to test the system on real appointments before upgrading. Paid plans start at a fraction of what Fresha charges in per-booking commissions.
What to Look For in a Salon Booking System
“Salon booking system” can mean anything from a paper diary with a Google Calendar bolted on to an enterprise spa suite. For an Australian hair or beauty salon the essentials are consistent: real-time availability for every stylist, service durations that block the right amount of chair time, automatic confirmations and reminders that genuinely cut no-shows, and a way to take a deposit from the clients who keep not turning up. Just as important is what happens after the booking: the appointment should flow into the client's record, the invoice and the day's takings without anything being re-typed.
Bookings that match how a salon actually runs
In OneBookPlus you set up each service with its own duration and price, choose which stylists perform it, and publish the lot on a branded booking page clients can use at 11pm from your Instagram bio, Google Business Profile or website. A calendar subscription link publishes confirmed appointments out to Apple, Google or Outlook, so a stylist's day is visible wherever they already look. Confirmations go out instantly, an email reminder goes out before the appointment on the lead time you choose, and SMS reminders are available on paid plans. Every booking lands in the same client record as the notes and past invoices, so whoever is at the front desk sees the whole picture. Explore the online booking feature page for the full walkthrough.
No commission on your own bookings
The biggest structural difference between salon booking systems is how they charge. Marketplace platforms are free to join and then take a percentage of online bookings and card payments; per-staff subscription platforms get expensive as the chairs fill. OneBookPlus charges a flat plan price, from $$0 per month, and takes no commission on online bookings, so the client you spent years winning never costs you a clip of the ticket when she rebooks. Deposits taken at booking time through Stripe protect your Saturday against no-shows, and the cancellation rules are yours to set, not a marketplace's.
Salon Accounting, Bookkeeping and Payroll in the Same Login
Most salon software stops at the front desk. The bookings look after themselves, but the money side still means a separate accounting subscription, a shoebox for the bookkeeper, or a Sunday night with a spreadsheet. OneBookPlus treats salon accounting as part of the same workflow as the appointment book: every checkout becomes a GST-compliant invoice, every colour order or rent payment is an expense against the business, and the reports draw on live figures rather than a month-old export.
Bookkeeping that keeps up with the chair
The books build themselves out of the day you already worked. Each checkout records the payment against its invoice, card or cash, the till is counted off at close, and supplier costs (colour, foils, retail stock, rent) go on as you buy them, keyed in or drafted from a photo of the receipt. GST is calculated on every sale and every expense, so the BAS summary is ready when the quarter closes, and profit and loss shows what each month actually made after product costs, not just turnover. See the finance and accounting features for the full picture, or sanity-check a quarter with the GST calculator.
Payroll and the Hair and Beauty Award
Wages are the biggest line in most salons, and the Hair and Beauty Industry Award 2020 makes them fiddly: classification levels for stylists, apprentices and beauty therapists, penalty rates, and super on top. The Rostering & Payroll add-on ($29/mo, 14-day trial) rosters your staff, turns their hours into a pay run, and calculates PAYG withholding to the current ATO tax schedules, plus penalty loadings, leave accrual and super guarantee, then produces payslips and an ABA file you upload to your bank. Commission tracking per stylist sits on the Growth plan. You set the pay rates, and the Hair and Beauty Award rates guide keeps the current classification minimums on hand while you do. Two things OneBookPlus does not do: it does not lodge Single Touch Payroll pay events to the ATO, so you keep reporting each pay run through STP-enabled software, and super is calculated and recorded against its quarterly due date rather than sent to the funds, so you still pay it through your clearing house. Everything else stays in one login, where the Saturday takings, the stylist wages and the BAS all agree with each other.
