About this app

Removes the 30-second typing step from every new-customer intake. Put the VIN on the vehicle record and make, model, year, fuel type and transmission fill themselves. Three sources, in order: the NHTSA vPIC database, which covers US and most European-delivered vehicles; our copy of the New Zealand Motor Vehicle Register for the right-hand-drive stock vPIC does not hold, which is most of the Australian fleet (Australia and New Zealand are supplied largely from the same Thai and Japanese plants, so the VIN prefixes overlap heavily); and the VIN itself, which yields a make and a model year but never a model. The app names which source answered, so nobody saves a half-filled record thinking it is complete, and where it cannot pin the build year it leaves the year blank and asks you to read the build plate rather than writing a guess into a customer's file. It will not cover a variant sold only in Australia. Cuts wrong-model service quotes (the silent margin killer) to near-zero. New Zealand register data is sourced from the NZ Transport Agency under a CC BY 4.0 licence.

How it works

  1. 1

Open the new-vehicle form on your phone

  2. 2

Put in the 17-character VIN from the door jamb or windscreen

  3. 3

Make, model, year, fuel and transmission populate automatically, with the source named

  4. 4

Save the vehicle, it's linked to the customer and ready to quote against

Who it's for

  • Front-of-house staff capturing a new customer in under 30 seconds
  • Mobile mechanics quoting on-site without the typing on a phone keyboard
  • Workshops that want to stop quoting the wrong engine/spec by accident

Features included

  • Make / model / year auto-fill from the VIN
  • Fuel type + transmission auto-fill
  • Auto-fill on new vehicle form
  • NHTSA vPIC decode for US and European deliveries
  • New Zealand register match for right-hand-drive models vPIC misses
  • Names the source, and leaves the year blank rather than guess it

About OneBookPlus apps

How VIN Scanner for Workshops fits into the rest of OneBookPlus

Most OneBookPlus apps are not external integrations wired up between separate products. They are native modules installed inside the same platform you already use for invoicing, bookings, CRM, and accounting. That means VIN Scanner for Workshops reads from and writes to the same customer records, financial entries, and calendar events as every other module, with no scheduled sync delays and no risk of data drift between systems.

Because the marketplace runs inside OneBookPlus, billing is consolidated. VIN Scanner for Workshops is included free with every plan, so installation just enables the feature in your dashboard. Cancellation is one click and never reaches into your data. Uninstalling an app removes the feature from the UI but preserves the underlying customer, invoice, and booking records, so reinstalling later picks up exactly where you left off.

Every app in the marketplace is built specifically for the Australian small and medium business context: GST and ABN handling are first-class concerns, dates render as DD/MM/YYYY, currency defaults to AUD, and the underlying compliance plumbing (BAS summaries, ATO-friendly records, AHPRA / NDIS / Fair Work checkpoints where relevant) is shared across modules.

For a side-by-side of which features ship as core modules versus which require an installed app, see the features page. For pricing across plans and which apps are bundled at each tier, see the pricing page.
