A builders clean happens once trades finish, removing construction dust, debris, stickers and paint spots so defects are visible for inspection. The final or handover clean is the detail pass just before keys change hands, leaving windows, cabinetry, bathrooms and floors presentation-ready. Anyone working on a construction site in Australia must hold a general construction induction card, known as a White Card, and follow the site's safety rules and inductions. Cleaning is not a licensed occupation, but the White Card requirement applies to cleaners on active sites just as it does to trades. Ask for cards before booking.

After every trade has finished and before the handover inspection, usually in the last few days of the program. Book it once painting and floor coverings are done, and build in a buffer, since trades running late is normal. A flexible cleaner who can shift a day or two either way saves handover-week stress.

Sometimes. Many crews will remove packaging, offcuts and light debris, but skip bins, tip fees and heavy material disposal are often the builder's responsibility or a priced extra. Hazardous materials such as asbestos are never part of a standard clean and require licensed removalists. Confirm exactly what waste is included before comparing quotes.

Walk the site in good light. Check window glass and tracks, inside cabinetry and drawers, tops of frames and skirtings, bathroom glass and tapware, and floors along the light. Sticker residue and paint spots are the usual misses. A professional crew expects the walkthrough and will return for touch-ups flagged at the defect inspection.
