Tap to Pay on iPhone is coming
Tap to Pay on iPhone is built but stays switched off in the public app until Apple grants the distribution entitlement, so plan on the payment link. It works in our development builds, no account can use it, and we are not putting a date on it. The rest of this page sets out how to take a card payment in the meantime.
How to take a payment today
A Pay Now link on every invoice
With Stripe Connect, each invoice carries a Pay Now button. Send it by email or text and the customer pays by card from their own phone, on the spot or later.
A payment link you can hand over in person
Standing at the kitchen bench or the counter, send the invoice and let the customer tap through on their own device. The payment clears the invoice the moment it lands.
Your own EFTPOS machine, recorded in the app
Take the card on the terminal you already have, then record it against the invoice or the till as a card payment. The sale, the GST and the receipt are all in OneBookPlus.
Cash, bank transfer and BECS
Record cash and bank transfers by hand, or let customers pay by BECS direct debit through Stripe. Each one clears the invoice and relieves the receivable in the ledger.
What it will do when Apple grants the entitlement
- 1The customer taps a contactless card, Apple Pay or another digital wallet on your iPhone. No dongle, no terminal rental, the iPhone is the reader.
- 2The tap is processed by Stripe on the same connected Stripe account that handles your online invoice payments, so in-person and online takings land in one place.
- 3The payment clears the invoice or the sale it was taken against, and the GST posts to the ledger with it.
- 4We will add no OneBookPlus platform fee on those taps; you will pay only Stripe's standard processing.
Tap to Pay FAQ
Can I use Tap to Pay on iPhone today?
No. Tap to Pay on iPhone is built and works in our development builds, but it stays switched off in the public iOS app until Apple grants the distribution entitlement. No account has it, and we cannot say when the entitlement will be granted, so please do not plan around it.
How do I take a card payment in person right now?
Send the invoice and let the customer pay through the Pay Now link on their own phone, or take the card on your own EFTPOS machine and record it against the invoice. Both paths clear the invoice, post the GST and produce the receipt.
What will it need when it does ship?
A recent iPhone running an up-to-date version of iOS (per Apple's Tap to Pay requirements), the OneBookPlus iOS app, and a connected Stripe account, the same one that powers online invoice payments.
What will a tap cost when it ships?
We will add no OneBookPlus platform fee on in-person taps; you will pay only Stripe's card-processing fees. Online card payments through invoice Pay Now links carry a platform fee of up to 2.5% today, and that fee is set out in our Terms of Service.
Will card details pass through OneBookPlus?
No. When it ships, payment data will be handled by Apple's Tap to Pay on iPhone technology and processed by Stripe. Card details are never shown to, stored by, or passed through OneBookPlus.
Get paid on the invoice instead
Card and BECS payments on invoices run through Stripe today, and they do not wait on anyone's entitlement.
