How to price a cleaning job in Australia
There is no single “right” price for a cleaning job, what you charge depends on your costs, your local market, and the type of clean. The three pricing models below cover almost every quote an Australian cleaner needs to write, and you can mix supplies and travel into any of them.
The three ways cleaners quote
- Hourly, best for regular domestic cleans where the scope is open-ended. Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you expect the job to take. Typical Australian domestic rates are $35 to $60/hr.
- Per room, quick to quote and easy for clients to understand. Charge a flat amount per room (often $30 to $50) and multiply by the number of rooms.
- Per square metre, common for end-of-lease (bond) and commercial cleans where floor area drives the work. End-of-lease jobs are often quoted around $4 to $10 per m².
The quote formula
Whatever model you pick, the maths is the same:
- Labour = rate × quantity (hours, rooms, or m²)
- Subtotal = labour + supplies + travel/call-out fee
- GST = subtotal × 0.10 (only if you are registered for GST)
- Total = subtotal + GST
Worked example. A 3-hour regular clean at $45/hr is $135 of labour. Add $15 of supplies and a $20 call-out fee and the subtotal is $170. If you are GST-registered, add 10% ($17) for a $187 total on the tax invoice. If you are not registered for GST, the client simply pays $170.

End-of-lease cleans are usually priced higher than a regular clean because they are more thorough and often have to meet a real-estate checklist. Many cleaners quote them per square metre ($4 to $10/sqm) or as a flat job rate based on the number of bedrooms and bathrooms.
