An app is not showing in my sidebar

Four reasons an app you expect to see is missing, in the order worth checking, from not installed to gated behind a plan or two-factor.

You went looking for a screen and it is not there. Work through these in order.

It is not installed

The most common answer. Go to App Marketplace and check whether the app shows as installed. Apps are opt-in, so nothing appears in your sidebar until somebody adds it. See adding an app from the marketplace.

Somebody removed it

An owner or an admin can remove an app, and when they do its screens disappear for everybody. Your records are still there. Check the marketplace, and check with whoever else has owner or admin access.

It is gated

A few apps have a condition in front of them and will not install until it is met:

  • The ATO and tax practice apps need every user in the account to have two-factor authentication set up. The install tells you how many people still have not
  • The Google reviews app is part of the Growth plan

You do not have the role

Only an owner or an admin can add or remove an app. If you are a member, an accountant or a viewer, the marketplace is visible and the install button will not work for you. Ask whoever owns the account.

It is installed and still missing

Sign out and back in once. A newly installed app changes what your sidebar is allowed to show, and a session opened before the install can be holding the old answer.

If it is still missing after that, tell support which app and which account, and we will look at the installation record directly.
