This is the setup guide for hospitality: a menu, a floor plan and table service. If you run a shop counter, use setting up the retail till instead. Both use the same Point of Sale app, and they are set up differently because a dining room and a counter are not the same job.
Prerequisites
Before you can use the POS, you need to set up:
- Menu items: your dishes, drinks, and products
- Tables: your dining area layout (optional for takeaway-only)
Step 1: Create Menu Categories
Go to Menu Management and create categories:
- Entrees, Mains, Desserts, Drinks, Sides, etc.
- Set a sort order to control the display
Step 2: Add Menu Items
For each item, enter:
- Name: e.g., "Margherita Pizza"
- Price: GST-inclusive recommended for hospitality
- Category: assign to a category
- Dietary tags: V (vegetarian), VG (vegan), GF (gluten-free), DF (dairy-free)
- Available: toggle off if temporarily unavailable
Step 3: Set Up Tables
Go to Table Management:
- Create rooms (Main Dining, Outdoor, Bar, etc.) with grid dimensions
- Add tables with labels (T1, T2, etc.), seat counts, and shapes
- Use the floor plan editor to position tables on the grid
Step 4: Start Taking Orders
Go to POS:
- Select a table (or choose Takeaway/Delivery/Pickup)
- Add items from the menu
- Adjust quantities and add special instructions
- Record the payment (Cash, Card, Other). OneBookPlus does not take the card payment itself yet, so a card sale is tapped on your existing EFTPOS machine and recorded here
- Close the order
Tip: Install Point of Sale from the App Marketplace if it is not already in your sidebar. See adding an app from the marketplace.
